Peace and All Good
Psalm-XII•

Psalm XV 1. Exult God our helper - raise a shout of joy to the Lord God living and true in a voice of exultation. 2. Since the Lord is exalted - the terrible great King over every land. 3. Because the Most Holy Father of Heaven, Our King before the ages~ sent His Beloved Son from on high - and He was born of the Blessed Virgin, Holy Mary. 4. He Himself invoked Me: Thou art My Father - and I will set Him as My firstborn, exalted before the kings of the Earth. 5. On that day the Lord commanded His mercy - and at night His song. 6. This is the day, which the Lord has made - let us exalt and be glad in it. 7. Because the Most Holy Beloved Boy has been given to us ~ and He has been born on our behalf on the road and placed in the manger - because there was no place in the inn. 8. Glory in the highest to the Lord God - and on earth peace to men of good will . 9. Let the heavens be glad and the earth exalt ~ let the sea be shaken and its fullness - the fields will rejoice and all, which is in them. 10. Sing to Him a new song - sing to the Lord every land . 11. Since the Lord is great and exceedingly praiseworthy - terrible above all gods. 12. Bring to the Lord you fatherlands of the nations ~ bring to the Lord glory and honor - bring to the Lord the glory of His Name. Lift up your bodies ~ and bear His Holy Cross - and follow until the end His most holy precepts. |

A reflection on Francis’ Psalm XV, verse 7 7. Because the Most Holy Beloved Boy has been given to us (Is. 9:5) ~ and He has been born on our behalf on the road and placed in the manger - because there was no place in the inn. (cf. Luke 2: 7) 7. (cf. Luke 2:7) In Francis’ psalms is revealed a great Love for the Sun of the Great King; for Francis there is neither Old nor New testament but only One Covenant between God and Man. We see this when we read his Psalms and find the melding of both New and Old in one Song. Francis’ Psalm XV is the “Psalm said from the Nativity of the Lord until the octave of the Epiphany at all hours.” 1 it is without doubt His Christ- Mass Song. The baby Jesus, sent down from on high, was born of the Virgin Mary – Francis knew where his God resided and from where his Lord descended.
In the same manner that Jesus knelt in the garden and prayed to his “daddy” Abba, so Francis’s pictures His Lord sending us his bambino; his “Saintly Child” 2 from on high. St. Francis tells us God is our daddy who sent his long promised beloved boy down to earth to save it from our destruction. Francis prays to his Lord that we will not let this greatest gift by a father of his son be wasted, rather that we take up our bodies, our crosses, and follow the new commandments of God’s Most Holy beloved Boy until this Child returns again. “Love on another as I have loved you! “ 3 References English text of the Psalm from the website of The Third Order Regular of St. Francis, Province of the Immaculate Conception, St. Bernardine Monastery Hollidaysburg, PA 16648 http://www.franciscanfriarstor.com/stfrancis/stf_st_francis_psalms_writings.htm#15 Italian texts with thanks to http://www.san-francesco.org/index_ita.html - since demised.
